A Good Man Takes Good Steps
Scripture
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way, Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
(Psalm 37:23 & 24)
Devotional
We have two possible interpretations of this awesome text: The first being that God establishes the steps of a good man that He may prosper him. The second could be that a man is made good because God establishes His steps, and thus he prospers. I don’t think that it is one or the other, but both. However, our goodness is not based on ourselves. Remember Jesus said, “… No one is good but One, that is, God.” We can only become good, with Christ in our lives. The Bible also teaches, “For I know that in me that is, in my flesh nothing good dwells…” If we wish to have our steps prepared for prosperity, we must belong to Christ. There are many people who prosper without Christ, but when they fall, they are utterly cast down. With Christ we are not only preserved, He also delights in our way.
