Title

It Takes Time For Change To Change

Scripture
And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, “The old is better.”
(Luke 5:39)
Devotional
It’s easy to talk about change; it’s quiet another thing to acutely do it. There is a comfort and a sense of security in the familiar. This is one reason that change is so difficult. For us to change, we have to get uncomfortable. We have to get out of the zone of familiarity, and into the zone of reasonable risk. There can be no growth in the satisfaction of the familiar. The familiar is the old wine skin. If you attempt to grow there the familiar will become contemptible, and burst the old wine skin. Thus the saying, “Familiarity breeds contempt.” We have to move into the realm of the new wine skin, which will be at first very unfamiliar. Yet, it takes a new wine skin for new wine to expand. This will take some time, so remember, it takes change to change, and it takes time for change to change.
