Title

Smile At Your Enemies

Scripture
And Hannah prayed and said: My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exulted in the Lord, I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.
(1 Samuel 2:1)
Devotional
This wonderful song of Hannah, was later used in part by Mary, the mother of Jesus in her celebrated “Magnificat.” It is a song of rejoicing, strength, and victory. Hannah knew that the source of her strength, and that victory was in the Lord. She knew that He was her savior. Therefore, she was able to smile at her enemies, not in boastful arrogance, but obedient victory. When Christ is your victor, your enemies are powerless against you. They are like raving caged animals. They can threaten and rage, but they are unable to get to you. Thus you are able to smile at their attempted intimidations. The key to this victory is realizing its source. There is no room for arrogance, nor prideful boasting. God can open the cage. Therefore, always rejoice in the Lord, and openly praise Him for His great salvation, and then smile at your enemies.
