Title

Seventy-Two Thousand Angels

Scripture
Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?
(Matthew 26:53)
Devotional
He could have called ten thousand angels, but He bled and died for you and me. If one angel has the power to destroy the world, just think what tens of thousands of angels could have done! They were at the ready. I am sure that they were lining the borders of heaven waiting for the Father to give the command, “Get My Son”. Heaven was silent. The Father held His command. Each angel stayed his hand and the Son obeyed His calling. The world at the time was clueless, ignorant and deluded. That is why Christ prayed, “Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.” We do. We know the price that was paid for our redemption. We know that the angels of heaven were kept from utterly destroying the universe in order to rescue the Son of God from the clutches of death. He knows that we know. Therefore, let us never forget we belong to Him. He paid for us.
Thought For The Night

The ultimate understanding of displaced gratification is reflected in the life of Christ, who gave up heaven for earth, who could have been crowned king, and who could have called ten thousand angels to rescue Him from the cross. Instead He accepted brutal, humiliating torture on our behalf. He put serving others ahead of serving His own needs.” John Ashcroft, former Attorney General of the United States.

Defining: “Angel” literally means, “messenger.” In the Scriptures they are both spiritual and physical beings. In the spirit realm they are defined and referred to by name and title (e.g. sons of God, archangels, Cherubim and Seraphim). In the physical realm they are ministers (Revelation 2:1).

Referencing: “And of the angels He says: ‘Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire,’” Hebrews 1:7.

Applying: Know and be aware that God has a “messenger” for you.
