Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day. (Proverbs 23:17)
There are many countless happy sinners. They enjoy life to the max and appear to have everything going for them. Do not let your heart envy them. Their happiness and apparent prosperity is at best for a season. Their days like ours will pass away quickly and they like us will have to face eternity. I can guarantee that they would trade all their temporal happiness for one minute of what the believer will experience for eternity. Furthermore, the greatest majority of temporal happiness is short lived. There are for the most part minutes of joy surrounded by hours of loneliness, anxiety and the fear of life and death. Happiness for the believer is a choice to be made and is not dependent upon the things of this world. They are here for our good pleasure, but our pleasure should not dependent on them. True happiness like God's grace goes hand in hand with the fear of the Lord.
