As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country. (Proverbs 25:25)
That's why it is called good news. Whenever we have to deliver news, we ought to do our best to make it good news. Even bad news needs to be delivered with comfort and hope. The adage, "Bad news travels fast," is more than true. It seems that because of our sin natures we almost take pleasure in the negative. Just consider the news media: There are more people who attend a church service on any given weekend in our country than attend all the professional football games in a season. Yet, let a dozen radicals protest anything and what gets the coverage? Let us not fall into this vain of communication. Let us be the ones who bring the good news and let us start with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is nothing better to tell and there is nothing more that is needed. As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a place called heaven.
