Mercy Triumphs

Scripture
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
(Matthew 5:7)
Devotional
James 2:13, says it this way, "For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment."[14] The English words and phrases: mercy, merciful and "have mercy upon" are translations of several different Hebrew and Greek roots, which are likewise translated: kindness, grace and favor. Therefore to show mercy is in the broad sense is to simply do good to those who may not necessarily merit or deserve such favorable treatment. Mercy and grace go hand in hand. Grace deals with man's guilt, while mercy deals with his state of being afflicted. As believers we are to put on a heart-felt compassion for others. This is however is having mercy, not necessarily being merciful. Being merciful requires action in word or deed. If we show mercy we will not judge. When we do not judge we will in turn receive mercy. Because the merciful are blessed, they will receive mercy.
