Title

Let Them Go

Scripture
Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord.
(Psalm 25:7)
Devotional
God is both able and willing to forget the sins of our youth and our many transgressions. The problem arises in that we often hold on to them as trophies and badges of honor. The psalmist has also said, "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."[21] God desires to throw our sins into the sea of forgetfulness, but we hinder Him doing so by holding on to those sins. Let us ask, are there sins of my youth of which I have not repented? Do I hold on to nostalgia and auld lang syne? As the song says, "Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?" The carousing and foolishness of our youth must be not only stopped, but also released from a memory of fleeting fancies and confessed to a merciful God. How can we ask God to forget our sins when we keep reminding Him of them?
