Title

Innocent Intentions

Scripture
And with Absalom went two hundred men invited from Jerusalem, and they went along innocently and did not know anything.
(2 Samuel 15:11)
Devotional
We must be constantly alert and careful not to be duped by deceivers and manipulators of the truth. Was Absalom the king's son, and had he won the hearts of the people? Yes he was and yes he did. Furthermore because those with Absalom were of high rank and standing, the people were under the impression that the king had supported this new regime. They assumed that since David was old and in poor health, that he was appointing his oldest son as his successor.? Because of this assumption, their intentions were innocent. Therefore be very careful of whom you follow. It appeared that Absalom was the new authority, nevertheless, appearance can and often is deceiving. There will always be charlatans, deceptive talkers whose statements sound good, but whose motives are vile. You may therefore be innocent in your actions, but the guilt of another may nonetheless be very costly.
