Jesus said, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘you shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”(Matthew 4:10)
Devotional
The temptation of Christ in the wilderness covered all of man's temptations. Christ overcame them taking them to the cross of Calvary. He overtook temptation in the wilderness and He overcame man’s succumbing to them on the cross. The victory that caused Satan to flee from Christ in the wilderness was worship. Worship can only come through submission to Christ. Therefore, when we submit to God, we likewise resist the devil and he in turn flees from us as he fled from Christ. When we answer temptation with the Word of God and obedience to God through the act of worship, we have victory over temptation. Therefore, we must know the Word and worship the Lord. Here is the key to overcoming all temptations. There are no shortcuts and no one is exempt. You and I are not Christ, nevertheless the closer we draw to Him the greater the temptation to draw back. Follow Christ’s example and have victory over temptation.Daily Reading
