Title

The Power to Bless

Scripture
Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
(Genesis 47:7)
Devotional
God’s appointed man will always supercede man’s held office. Jacob was the father of shepherds, while Pharaoh was the good king of the nation of Egypt. It may appear that the greater was blessed by the lesser. The fact of the matter is that the far greater blessed the wretched, poor and blind. The wealth, power and fame of Pharaoh were minutely temporal. Jacob’s is eternal. Therefore, if you belong to Christ, you are a royal priesthood. There is never a need to be intimidated by any man’s office, fame or earthly power. In the scope of eternity, you have the greater status. We are to respect authority. However, we are not to be intimidated by it. We are not to be arrogant; nevertheless, we are to boldly stand for Christ in whatever we do. When we cower, we cannot bless. When we boldly and yet with humility affirm our position in Christ we can be a blessing to whomever we meet.
