Title

Shown Last, Chosen First

Scripture
Jesse begot Eliab his firstborn… and David the seventh.
(1 Chronicles 2:13-15)
Devotional
Jesse the grandson of Boaz and Ruth had seven sons. The prophet Samuel came to him because God said that one of his sons would replace Saul as king of Israel. We know the story, the first six sons of Jesse appeared before Samuel and with the passing of each, and he said “Not this one.” Jesse had one son left the youngest who was out tending the sheep. His name was David, the one who became Israel’s greatest king. The lesson of the story is simple. Never measure the value of anyone, especially yourself. You may be like David, the youngest and the least likely. Nevertheless, God does not see as man sees, nor does He judge as man judges. God sees perfectly. He knows the hidden character and obedience of the ones He chooses. Do not count yourself short, you may be the one God decides to use for a great and mighty exploit. You may be like David, a man or a woman after God’s own heart.
