Don’t Forget To Build

Scripture
“When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.”
(Acts 15:31:)
Devotional
Do you find yourself constantly disciplining your children, but seldom encouraging them? Do you find yourself regularly complaining at work and seldom giving words of edification? Too often we correct, discipline, and rebuke without giving words of encouragement. Think about the words that proceed out of your mouth. Are they a healthy mixture of correction and encouragement, or are they an imbalance of one over the other? ?If we consistently tear down without ever building up, we will eventually end up with a life that is in ruins. Therefore, make sure there is both correction and encouragement in your life. ?Be a builder of life, not a destroyer of it.

I recently heard in a positive coaching clinic for baseball that the magic number is 5. We must make 5 encouraging comments to each one that is considered constructive criticism in order to get the optimal result. This is of course, for instructional purposes, and if it's not constructive, my guess is the old rule applies; if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
