Watch What You Say

Scripture
“Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.”
(Proverbs 21:23)
Devotional
The power that the mouth and tongue possess is amazing. It can express love or produce war. The Bible has much to say about it. James says, “The tongue is a little member and boasts great things…. the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set… that it defiles the whole body… For every kind of… creature… is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil.” James also says, “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” When we learn to control our mouths we will learn to control our lives. Furthermore, Proverbs says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” ?Whether it is blessing or trouble, love or war, these and countless other circumstances are controlled by the words that come from our mouths. Guard what you say well and you will likewise live well.
