Title

Do Not Anger God

Scripture
O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
(Psalm 6:1)
Devotional
Our text makes it obvious that we can anger and displease God. Hebrews says, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” It is a good thing to focus on the love of God, but we must not neglect the wrath of God. God hates sin and will always deal with it, especially in His people. God is angry when we harm our brothers, His children. He is displeased when we neglect His will. As a loving parent chastises a disobedient child, our Heavenly Father will chastise us.

A foolish child ignores the will of his or her parents. An obedient child understands that there are areas that bring an angry rebuke and a hot displeasure. We are to welcome the rebuke of God, for the Hebrews again says, “But if you are without chastening then you are illegitimate and not sons.” It is one thing to be lovingly corrected; it is quite another to be rebuked in anger and chastened in hot displeasure.
