Cleansing the City

Scripture
“Thus I cleansed them of everything pagan.”
(Nehemiah 13:30)
Devotional
Paganism is anything void of the ways of God. In a word it means godlessness. ?In this text, Nehemiah knew that Jerusalem would not survive as a pagan city because God would not bless that which was void of Him. We like Nehemiah need to realize that (metaphorically speaking) the cities of our lives will likewise fail unless we remove every pagan thing from them. ?We need to take inventory of our cities. What is in them that could hinder the blessings of God? What compromises have we made in order to satisfy someone other than God? Have we allowed things into our cities that cause contention, division, or disorder? ?Let’s remove the false idols that we not only possess, but those idols that possess us as well. Let us not only remove the pagan physical idols, but also the mental and emotional ones as well. Let’s cleanse the cities of our lives of anything pagan and receive the blessings of the city of God. Does your city need a cleansing?
