Title

The Greatest Sin of Man

Scripture
A proud and haughty man-“Scoffer” is his name; he acts with arrogant pride.
(Proverbs 21:24)
Devotional
People of such character are not only repulsive to man; they are likewise repulsive to God. Billy Graham has called pride the greatest sin of man. In our text, we see the epitome of pride. Its titles are: haughty, scoffer, and arrogant. These characteristics will always precede a fall. The scriptures furthermore declare: “When pride comes, then comes shame.” (1) “By pride comes nothing but strife ”(2) “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (3) Evidently there is no room for pride in the life of a believer, let alone haughty, scoffing and arrogant pride. Do not allow pride to get a foothold on you. When you detect its presence, flee from it. Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. Confess your sin and seek repentance. Do not compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to God. That will humble you and keep you from arrogant pride.
