Title

A Word to the Prudent

Scripture
A fool despises his father's instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent.
(Proverbs 15:5)
Devotional
The commandments are clear; we are to honor our fathers and mothers. And I know of no greater way to do so than to receive their instruction. If you are reading or hearing this devotion you owe your parents a debt of gratitude—you are alive. Furthermore you can continue to learn from them. Whether young or old, we can receive correction from our parents. It matters not their education; wisdom or spiritual condition we are not to despises their discipline. It is the wise man and woman who listens to their parents with an ear that leans toward obedience. I have found that the more we honor our parents the more honorable they become. Whether wise of foolish, spirit filled or drunkards, we can receive and learn a great deal about life. Proverbs 23:22 furthermore says, “Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”[1] Herein is a word to the prudent.
