Title

A Green Olive Tree Attitude

Scripture
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
(Psalm 52:8)
Devotional
I am not sure of the meaning with regard to the olive tree being described as green. It could possibly mean that the tree is young and immature or possibly healthy and thriving—or even both. Which ever, it is surely positive. That is how we are to be in the house of God: alive, flourishing and producing fruit. Is this your relationship with your church? Is your relationship with God’s people in God’s house flourishing? If not why not? I am convinced that a green olive tree attitude is based on how well rooted we are in the mercy of God. When we are rooted in His mercy, we will be merciful and if we are merciful we will flourish and bear much fruit in God’s house. If we are filled with judgments and faultfinding we will shrivel up and die with no one to blame but ourselves. Psalm 84:10 says it this way, “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”[1]
