Do Not Be Lulled To Sleep

Scripture
Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head.
(Judges 16:19)
Devotional
Who or what lulls you to sleep when you ought to be wide-awake? You would have thought that Samson would have learned his lesson. He flirted with temptation one too many times. We must not be lulled into lethargic sin. Anything that causes us to relax our thoughts and reasoning should be at best cautiously dealt with. If you find yourself drifting off into a stupor, change the channel. When temptation appears and you find yourself succumbing to it, run for your life. Whatever causes you to become lazy and indulgent, avoid it like the plague. Samson was by far the strongest man in Israel; nevertheless, there was a Philistine woman deceptively stronger. When you think that you are at the peak of your strength, beware; there may be one lurking in the dark to bring you down. Therefore do not toy with the source of your strength. The scriptures are clear, “Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.”(1)
