God’s Word Holds True

Scripture
It shall be a lowest of kingdoms; it shall never again exalt itself above the nations, for I will diminish them...
(Ezekiel 29:15)
Devotional
What God exalts, man cannot diminish, and what God diminishes, man cannot exalt. Egypt was once the greatest and grandest of all kingdoms. Its wealth was immeasurable, its territory vast. Its armies were feared and conquered without resistance. Its glory surpassed that of Rome. Nevertheless, God relegated it to the lowest of kingdoms. Egypt has not risen above this state since its judgment was announced by the God of Israel. Its splendors are mere relics of former glories.
Here we have a testimony of the authority of God’s Word. The prophecies and judgments of God are irrevocable. They are both a warning and a sign of His sovereignty and power. We are never to go against that which God has exalted and never attempt to build that which He has diminished. Of all histories, the history of the Bible is to be heeded above all. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”(1)
