Title

You're too Loud, I Can't Hear You

Scripture
A foolish woman is clamorous; she is simple, and knows nothing.
(Proverbs 9:13)
Devotional
Here we have the direct opposite of what the apostle Peter calls, "The incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit."[1] Too many words, especially too many loud words lead to foolishness. It seems to be a fact, that those who know the least, know it the loudest. Likewise profanity appears to be a simple mind's way of expressing itself forcefully. Neither is becoming and neither bears fruit. Therefore, let us watch the number of our words and the volume by which we speak them. There is seldom cause to raise our voices in conversation. If we are to shout, let us shout to the Lord with praise and adoration. Clamor may get attention, but it does not get respect or lasting results. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."[2] Therefore let us count our words and let us make our words count. And let us count them softly.
