When Noah Webster produced the American Dictionary of the English language in 1828, the meaning of a great majority of the words were derived from the Bible. Many usage illustrations were likewise Biblical in content. To attempt to understand our culture, heritage and history without a basic knowledge of the Bible is to be void of understanding our culture, heritage and history. From sayings like, "I have escaped by the skin of my teeth," to countless stories, the Bible has been the root of our language and traditions. Webster's reason for creating a dictionary expressly for the American English language is found in his quote of Psalm 11:3[9], "If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?" This foundation is being destroyed. We are losing the basis of our language. Our godly history is being erased. What can the righteous do? Let us return to the language of our forefathers by returning to the language of God.Daily Reading
