Title

Waterless Clouds

Scripture
Whoever falsely boasts of giving is like clouds and wind without rain.
(Proverbs 25:14)
Devotional
The little book of Jude derides these dreamers even more so than the writer of this proverb. He says of them, "They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots."[1] These are people with a facade of prosperity, happiness and success. They boast of their victories when there are none. They go into debt to buy their trophies; none are earned. They display their dreams and desirers, but will not lift a finger to achieve them. They talk about their labor, but will not work. In church they parade themselves as faithful parishioners, all the time robbing God of His tithe. Again, Jude calls them, “Spots in your love feasts.”[1] The sadness of this proverb is that it describes too many people. Therefore let us seed our clouds with work and shower our lives with integrity. Why should we dry up and die?
