Title

Handling Praise and Honors

Scripture
Men will praise you when you do well for yourself... [Nevertheless] A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.
(Psalm 49:18-20)
Devotional
It is a fact; success attracts honor, even if the success is unmerited or faddish. Whether in business, entertainment or the church, when anyone does well for himself or herself, people will praise them. From the motion picture industry's Academy Awards to a song well sung on a Sunday morning accolades will be given. These recognitions are not evil in themselves; it is good to distinguish the excellent from the mediocre. The problem arises when the one receiving the accolades takes the honor as if it were self-created. These honors are temporal. They have no lasting value. They will perish with the passing of time
