Title

There is No Equality in sorrow

Scripture
David arose... fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so.
(1 Samuel 20:41)
Devotional
There is seldom if ever equality in sorrow. From the departing of friends to the loss of a loved one it is difficult at best to empathize with another's feelings. To say for example to someone who has lost a loved on, "I understand how you feel," is not the wisest of statements. We do not understand; we are not in their shoes. David and Jonathan were the dearest of friends; when they parted, "they wept together, but David more so." Does this matter? Yes, by all means, we must understand that there can be an equal loss, but not necessarily an equal response to that loss. Therefore let us not judge another by how we would respond or how we have responded to the same type of loss. There will be differing degrees of mourning as well as celebration. Therefore let us be slow to judge someone by how they mourn or how they celebrate. Show mercy, compassion, and patients. You may need the same some day.
