Title

Worthless Harmony

Scripture
What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
(2 Corinthians 6:15)
Devotional
The answer to the apostle's rhetorical question is at best, "Very little." Belial is used here as a metaphor for Satan and literally means worthlessness. Therefore there is no harmony between the Creator of the universe and the deceiver of the brethren, nor can there be. Likewise it would be worthless to attempt to have harmony between a believer and an unbeliever. There is to be a distinction between those who call on the name of the Lord and those who do not. It is one thing for the world to act like Christians, but it is quite another for Christians to act like the world. To do so is to sing the wrong song. Our coming out from among them is to live a life honoring to Christ. We are to reach and win the world without embracing the world. There is a difference between befriending and being a friend. Befriending wins, being a friend joins. "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?"[18]
