That Still Small Voice

Scripture

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.
(Isaiah 30:21)

Devotional

I am more than a little convinced that we are to understand the Old Testament in the light of the New, never the reverse. Jesus therefore illuminates our text when He says, "When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come."[29] How does the Holy Sprit speak to us? Do we audibly hear Him? I am sure that there are some who have, but for the most part He speaks through His messengers, His Word or through our consciences. The latter most likely being to what our text is referring. I have found that whenever I violate my conscience I am more than likely violating God's Word and will for my life. Therefore I believe that the Holy Spirit does and will speak to us through our consciences saying, "This is the way, walk in it,"
