Title

When the Countenance Changes

Scripture
And Jacob saw the countenance of Labon, and indeed it was not favorable toward him as before.
(Genesis 31:2)
Devotional
The people who brought you to where you are may not be the people who will take you to where you wish to go. Labon had greatly prospered through God’s hand on Jacob. However, Jacob prospered more. When Jacob’s status was less than that of Labon, Labon accepted Jacob’s success. However when Jacob began to prosper more than Labon, Labon’s countenance changed, and it was time for Jacob to move on. People do not mind your success as long as your success is not greater than theirs. It is a simple fact of man’s sinful nature and character. This should not be the case with believers; nevertheless, it usually is.  When you success passes that of your mentor, you will most likely have to find another. This does not mean that you no longer respect the one who brought you to where you are; it is that he will not be the one to take you to where you wish to go, for his countenance toward you has changed.
