Love, But Mark Your Enemies
Scripture
But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.(Genesis 33:4)
Devotional
God is more than able to make our enemies to be at peace with us. Esau threatened to kill Jacob. Nevertheless, here we find him embracing him. However, Jacob knew that he would have to depart from Esau because the same nature that threatened Jacob before remained in Esau. When God causes you to be at peace with your enemies, remember they remain your enemies. We are to love them; however, we are to also mark them. We are to realize that only God can change the sin nature of man. No matter how loving and remorseful an enemy may appear; mark him. Remember what the Lord said about Jacob and Esau, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” We can love without embracing. We can love and be at peace. However, we cannot embrace an enemy without that enemy eventually manifesting their hatred. Therefore, love them, but mark them.Daily Reading
