Title

Why We are Unable to Finish

Scripture
This man began to build and was unable to finish.
(Luke 14:30)
Devotional
The answer to the reason why he was not able to finish is a simple one; he did not, “Count the cost.” Whether in following Christ or completing an endeavor, there is a price to be paid. We so often with premature enthusiasm commit ourselves to tasks and endeavors that we do not have the wherewithal to complete. It is not a matter of initially being willing, it is a matter of being willing to pay the continual cost to achieve the endeavor. We see it daily, good people beginning a task that they never finish. How sad to watch them cower and hide when they realize that they have not properly counted the cost. Often they turn to blame. “Surely,” they say, That this could not be their fault. We should never deter the enthusiasm of others when they enthusiastically enter a venture. However, we should guide them through the process of counting the cost so that they will be able to finish the task before them.
