The Character of David

Scripture
David… said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?
(1 Samuel 20:1)
Devotional
Here we see why David was a man after God’s own heart. David was not only innocent in his deeds and actions; he was innocent in his thoughts and the intent of his mind. He honestly asked, “What have I done?” He truly wanted to know if there was any iniquity or sin in his life. The lesson ought to be clear for us. Whenever we are attacked or ridiculed for our deeds and efforts, we should first examine our own selves. Like David, we are to have no pride or arrogance in us. Our intentions are to be noble and true. If they are not, then we are to listen intently to the accusations of those who are against us. Even is the allegation are false, our attitudes may be guilty. David was innocent on all accounts. His character was intact. He remained loyal and true, and because of faithfulness, God vindicated him, nest to Christ, Israel’s greatest king.
