Title

When It is Better To Receive Than Give

Scripture
Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.
(Proverbs 23:12)
Devotional
I know of no clearer road to success than this simple proverb. To apply one’s heart to instruction is to have a teachable spirit. You will never find anyone successful who is unteachable. The entire purpose of the book of Proverbs is to know wisdom and instruction. We acquire a heart for instruction by purposefully being teachable, and by applying ourselves to hear with an ear leaning toward obedience the words of knowledge. This we do by surrounding ourselves with wise and knowledgeable people. May I add that we can learn from anybody especially the aged. Every conversation, every discussion and every opportunity is to be a learning experience. Instead of always sharing what you know, be intrigued by what others know. Be quicker to listen than to speak. Put more question marks at the ends of your sentences than periods and exclamation points. “Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.”
