Title

Continual Obedience

Scripture
Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?
(2 Thessalonians 2:5)
Devotional
It seems as if we live in an age of short-lived memories. How many times, for example, have you heard a parent say, “Didn’t I tell you to pick up your clothes?" To which the child looks bewildered and answers, “Yes, but I didn’t think that you meant for me to pick them up every day.” This juvenile behavior, unfortunately, carries over into adulthood. We seem to need continual instructive reinforcement. Once just isn’t enough. I guess that is why there are four gospels. I think if there is a difference between continued success and temporal success it is in the ability to hear and continually obey. The apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” Let us put away the childish behavior of having to be instructed repeatedly. Instead, let us hear once and obey continually.
