Title

We Cannot Cheat God

Scripture
So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.
(Acts 5:11)
Devotional
I am sure that the offering that followed these events was a good one. This couple, Ananias and Sapphira, took credit for giving more than they actually did. The apostle Peter called them on it, and they lied about it. Then, in front of the whole church, they fell over dead. You can be assured that there was a rustling of checkbooks throughout the congregation after that. Well, the lessons of our text are manifold: We seldom can fool man let alone God The Holy Spirit is God. The wages of sin is death, and God has a way of getting our attention. Ananias and Sapphira did not die because they did not give. They died for attempting to lie to God. Their hypocrisy was aimed toward heaven and heaven rejected it. The scripture is clear, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” The moral is simple, God knows.
