Memories are Deceptive

Scripture
Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full!
(Exodus 16:3)
Devotional
Memories are deceptive. We have a tendency to forget the reality of the past. The people had forgotten that they were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt. The book of Ecclesiastes instructs, "Do not say,‘Why were the former days better than these?’ For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.”[1] Our memories are often no more than pictures of the past, vague remembrances of moments in time. Therefore when hard times come and they will come, instead of looking back to a time of nostalgia, look to the future. Let us realize that all trials, problems and sufferings are temporary. They each and every one will diminish with the passing of time—If not in this life, then certainly in the life to come. For the believer, the best has not passed; the best is yet to come. This is our hope of glory. The good old days were not that good and these present days are not that bad, but the future is pure and lean before us.
