Title

Blameless

Scripture
The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, but the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
(Proverbs 11:5)
Devotional
"The righteousness of the blameless," what an unusual phrase—a wonderful idiom. Jesus gave us an example of a blameless man, “Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him,  ‘Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!’”[1] The KJV uses the word guile instead of deceit. To be blameless is to be free of deviousness, cunning, deceit and the like. It is not to be perfect, but innocent. There are many who attempt to do things right, but with the wrong attitudes. Their righteousness comes with a dishonest motive. They may say and even do the right things, but their actions and deeds are filled with guile. This is pharisaical (hypocritical) righteousness, which leads its possessor down the wrong path—the path of the wicked. Therefore let all that you do be done without an ulterior scheming motive. Let it be said of you as it was of Nathanael, Behold a Christian indeed, in whom there is no deceit.
