Title

Let's Not Give The World An Excuse

Scripture
The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
(Proverbs 11:9)
Devotional
Living it is better than saying it. I wonder how many people have been turned off to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ because of blatant hypocrisy? Every time a believer falls into immorality, I shudder to think of the number of people who will be negatively influenced by their selfish deeds. Especially impacting are those who have been the most outspoken in their "religion." I use the word religion because I believe that for the most part these, as the Bible calls them, "reprobates," are more attached to the laws of religion than the Law Giver, the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not say this to judge; I say it to try to understand. I have seen many of whom I thought were spiritual leaders fall, most to sexual immorality: adultery, pornography and the like. How does this hypocrisy happen? It happens by succumbing to the temptations of the evil one and by a great lack of accountability. The more accountable the more faithful. The world cannot take many more hypocrites.
