Trust A Good Conscience

Scripture
The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
(Proverbs 12:5)
Devotional
The apostle James says it this way, "Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."[1] The inclinations of those who belong to Christ are, for the most part, trustworthy. Our consciences are wonderful guides with regard to decision-making. We are to never violate our consciences. When we do, we violate faith, and, "Whatever is not from faith is sin."[2] Whenever we seek counsel to soothe a violated conscience, we are attempting to deceive ourselves. Let us remember, we have the mind of Christ, and that mind will not violate itself or God's Word. The old adage, "Let your conscience be your guide" is a good one. If you have doubts about a decision, move very slowly with regard to that decision. Give your conscience time to weigh in on your decision-making. Furthermore, never allow counsel to override a good conscience. For the thoughts of the righteous are right.
