Title

God's Second Fiddle

Scripture
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John… He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
(John 1:6)
Devotional
John the Baptist was a unique man in that he was the same age and the cousin of Jesus. His father was a priest and the father of Jesus was a carpenter. Nevertheless John knew that he was to be second to his cousin. The world needs more men and women who are willing to be second, people who are willing to point to another. We do not have to be the ones with the answers; all we may need to do is be the ones who point others to the ones with the answers. Because John was willing to be second, Jesus said of him, "Among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist."[1] Like John there needs to be more people who say of another, "He must increase, but I must decrease."[2] Is there another in your life that is to have the preeminence? Is God calling you to be second yet satisfied?
