Title

The Power to Stop

Scripture
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret-it only causes harm.
(Psalm 37:8)
Devotional
God never commands us to do anything we are unable to do. This is the meaning of grace. Grace is God granting us the ability and power to obey Him. Thus, when God says cease from anger, forsake wrath, or don’t fret, we have the power to stop. Here’s how: one event at a time.
The problem many of us have is that we want to deal with all of life’s situations at once. This we not only shouldn’t attempt, we can’t do it. Deal with one step at a time, one aggravation at a time. If you blow it, quickly repent and do not fret about it, as our text says, “It only causes harm.” The next time you find yourself filled with anger or wrath, instead of dealing with the one causing it, deal with yourself. Pray; ask the Lord for an extra measure of grace. Remember, if He commands it, He will supply it.
