We Cannot Repent Without Changing

Scripture
Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance.
(Matthew 3:8)
Devotional
There can be no repentance without change. Repentance is a turning from our former ways and deeds. For there to be genuine repentance there must first be an understanding of the error of our ways. Secondly, there must be remorse, true sorrow for our actions. And there must be a new attitude, a purposeful changing of the mind. Before we can experience and bear fruit worthy of repentance, we are to understand that being sorry that we have been caught in our sin is not repentance. Being sorry for our sin leads to repentance. Furthermore, confessing our sins leads to a right heart attitude toward those sins. 1John 1:9 is such a powerful verse of scripture with regard to confession leading to God granting us repentance. It says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Here is where the fruits of repentance begin. Do you want to change?
