The Reason Why

Scripture
My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction.
(Proverbs 3:11)
Devotional
The only reason God would ever chastise or correct us is because He loves us so very much. The Bible clearly tells us, "If you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons."[9] How does God chastise us? First of all He does not do so by tempting us. "God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone."[10] I believe that God chastises us by exposing our sin, and that this exposing of sin is incremental. That is, He will first revel it to us, giving us opportunity to turn from it. If we fail to heed that chastisement, He will continue to expose it until we have no other choice, but to confess it. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."[11] Correction will always come from the Word, and it matters not from whom the Word may come.
