Listen to Yourself

Scripture
You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips.
(Psalm 21:2)
Devotional
I believe the main reason God's people do not get what they want in life, is that they do not know what they want. The reason being is that we often cannot distinguish between lust and desire. The things that we lust after are not the things that we truly desire. Lust is of the flesh; desire comes from the heart. Here is how we know the difference: we have to ask. When we make request with our lips, our hearts are revealed and we hear ourselves. If what we hear is from the lust of the flesh and the pride of life, it will be revealed as foolishness. If it comes from the heart and the mind of the Lord, it will lead us to obedience and fruition. Start articulating your wants and desires to God; speak them aloud. God will hear you and you will hear you. Remember the words of the apostle James, "You do not have, because you do not ask."[1]
