Devotional
Ill-gotten gain brings ruin. Yes, there may be pleasure and a level of satisfaction for a season, but it will be a short-lived season. Anything gained by way of fraud or deception will waste away like snow in summer. The shine of unmerited gain will quickly tarnish. The wages of falsehood as our text reveals profits nothing. Righteousness on the other hand at the very least delivers from death. What can be better than that which brings life? And the life that the righteousness of Christ brings not only abundance, it is eternal as well. A life of deception, lies and fraud brings strife, division and ruin. A life of righteousness, which is simply doing things right, brings peace, unity and success; and this without exception. Yes, there may be an appearance of prosperity and favor through wicked profit, but at best it will only last a season of days. It brings no value to eternity.Daily Reading
