Title

Thinking Too Highly of One's Self

Scripture
I say
(Romans 12:3)
Devotional
Egotism comes in many forms. From self-gratification to shy-embarrassment and from arrogance to self-pity, these all come from thinking too highly of oneself. True humility for example can be shamed, but not embarrassed. It knows that it can do all things through Christ, but is not self-gratified. Humility is never arrogant, but down-to-earth. It is never filled with self-pity, but does pity others. A sure sign of thinking too highly of yourself is that you are easily angered, defensive and/or insecure. Insecurity for instance comes from one's perception of what others think about them, not what they think about themselves. Those who think too highly of themselves are focused on titles, not position, how they look instead of who they are in Christ. They are more interested in being respected than being respectful. And if they are respectful it is because they are respecters of persons.[8]
