Title

Pacifying Anger and Wrath

Scripture
A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe behind the back, strong wrath.
(Proverbs 21:14)
Devotional
There is power in giving even if the receiving of the gift is inordinate. It may not be right; nevertheless it is a fact. A gift given with an apology brings a greater acceptance than an apology alone. A gift given without the notice of anyone other than its recipient more than often expresses the sincerity of the gift—especially if it is to accompany a request for forgiveness. Even a bribe works to sooth the vindictive anger of its possessor. When presented without fanfare both pacify. They are not to be used to for selfish favor or manipulation. These are to be used to calm anger and sooth wrath—not so much for the benefit of the one doing giving, but for the welfare of the one doing the receiving. There is a fine line that can easily violate the giver as well as the recipient of a gift. It is a matter of the heart and conscience. Neither is to be violated. I wish I could tell you where that line is, but I cannot. Therefore be careful with your giving and avoid the bribe.
