Knowing What We Want and Why

Scripture
But Jesus answered and said, You do not know what you ask
(Matthew 20:22)
Devotional
Here we have the reason why to what seemingly may appear to be unanswered prayer. We many times do not know what we are asking. The apostle James said it this way, "You do not have because you do not ask. "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss."[21] First of all, it is OK to ask. The problem with many of us is that we do not ask often enough and big enough. When we do ask, we again, often ask for that which we do not understand the consequences. Furthermore, we must be careful for what we ask because we just might get what we ask for. I am convinced that God will only give us what we can handle. That is, God will not entrust us with a stewardship greater than our abilities. We have what we can handle. Let us by all means ask, but let us do so seeking God's will and wisdom in our requests.
