Title

The Wisest Seek Counsel

Scripture
Then with counsel and wisdom Daniel answered Arioch, the captain of the king's guard
(Daniel 2:14)
Devotional
Daniel was obviously the wisest and godliest man in Nebuchadnezzar's Babylon. Nevertheless, in his wisdom he sought counsel. This is the mark of the wise. Even in all their understanding, they seek godly counsel. They do not simply look for agreement, but additional insight, knowledge and understanding. The wise look for those who bear witness to the truth, not necessarily to their judgment.[31] Seeking godly counsel is not only a sign of wisdom; it is the acquisition of wisdom. Great leaders for example will surround themselves with the wisest of counselors. They listen carefully and weigh the advise of those they have around them. They ask honest questions seeking honest answers. They do not ask to manipulate, but that they might be rightly influenced. The unwise are not so, they do not ask questions, they question. The do not seek to be influenced, they manipulate. Daniel was a wise, leader. We can and should learn much about governing from him.
