Title

That's Not Funny!

Scripture
Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, is the man who deceives his neighbor, and says, "I was only joking!",
(Proverbs 26:18-19)
Devotional
There will always be much truth spoken in jest. That is what makes a lot of humor so humorous—it’s truthfulness. However, to insult, ridicule or malign someone and say, “I was only joking,” is wrong. And if we are honest with ourselves, the explanation is a lie.  Hurtful humor is not funny. Anytime we attempt to get a laugh at the expense of another, we are, in our futility, attempting to exult ourselves. And when we do, the last laugh will be on us. Anytime there is an element of truth to the game of “Cutting-up,” the game equates to firebrands, arrows and death. To make fun of another’s weakness, handicap or appearance, like using profanity, is a scrawny mind’s attempt to exult itself. Laughing is great. We need more of it, but not at the expense of others. Laugh with people, not at them. If you must laugh at someone, laugh at yourself. Now, that’s funny!
